7 Mistakes to Avoid When Making Cakes

Since mankind has existed, we have witnessed some of the greatest breakthroughs in history. These innovative inventions have shaped our lives and will continue to do so for centuries. Some of these breakthroughs include electricity, vaccines, automobile and of course Eis Cafe.
Despite listing some of the best creations ever, particularly Eis Cafe, it has been undisputed that the greatest mankind invention is… cake!
Although cake makes every situation 10x better, it can be argued that not every cake can be considered cake. In the 12 years we have been around, we have discovered that making a delicious, creamy cake is no piece of cake. That is why we have spent the last decade trying to perfect our recipes, baking techniques and of course presentation skills. We wanted to ensure that every customer is served something spectacular that is suited to your specific taste palettes.
After years of research and experience, we decided to compile and share some of the biggest mistakes to avoid when making cakes by yourself. This guide is perfect for individuals who enjoy making cakes as much as eating them, just like us!
1. Not Using Fresh Ingredients
We understand it is not always possible to get fresh ingredients, especially if you are in a rush or have so many other things to do. Nonetheless, good quality ingredients will make a huge difference in appearance, texture and most importantly taste.

2. Approximation of Measurements
We have all done it before! We find an online recipe, start measuring and before you know it, we slowly begin to spiral down the ‘approximation loop’. In other words, if you have ever said “that will do” when measuring flour, then you are in the loop.
Baking is a science and the margin for error is very low. We highly recommend measuring to the exact measurement to eliminate any beginner results.
3. Impatience
Impatience is the biggest culprit to many baking mistakes. Often at times, it can lead to opening the oven door every so often to check if that rich, tasty cake is done. Causing the cake to completely collapse in appearance and flavour. It can even lead to raising the oven temperature a little higher than specified to bake faster, even though it will result in the cake being very dry in taste and texture.
Quick Solution: Be Patient!
4. Not Experimenting Enough
Making anything yourself is all about experimentation. As mentioned before, baking is a science and science is all about experiments. Many of our cakes are the result of 100’s of different experiments that were finally successful after many failed attempts. We spent many years perfecting the taste and appearance of our cakes just by going all out with our imagination. Anyone can do the same!
5. Cutting into Cake Before Cooled
We know it is hard to wait and again this is caused by impatience. When removing the cake from the oven it is still baking within, which is why you should leave it to rest. If you have ever cooked steak before, you will know that the most important part is leaving it to rest because that is how you stop all the juices from flowing. The same applies to cakes.
Do Not Touch It! Do Not Smell It! Do Not Look At It!
5. Being Stingy with Chocolate

This one is targeted towards those who plan on making a chocolate-themed cake. It is very simple, but one everyone ignores and that is not being liberal enough when it comes to spreading that chocolate goodness.
If you are making a chocolate cake, there is no such thing as too much chocolate. A true chocolate connoisseur will not tell you otherwise.
7. Not Sharing Your Creations on Social Media

Again… a very simple mistake that can be easily avoided, however, it is arguably the most important one. Be proud of your creations, it takes a lot of effort to make cakes and it most certainly is not easy.
